Skype updates Android app, adds support for popular tablets - pattonprixed

Although Google and Microsoft don't exactly shape up, that hasn't stopped Skype from updating its Android app with tablet back up and improved audio quality.

Skype for Android 3.0 now supports the "nearly popular" Android tablets, including Samsung's Galaxy Tab 2, Google's Nexus 7, Acer's Iconia Tab, Asus' Transformer Blossom, Sony's Tablet S and Motorola's Xoom.

The app makes exercise of the extra concealment space by viewing sailing tabs and recent communication theory on the left English of the screen, and thumbnail images of contacts on the right field side. A set of menu buttons sit in the top-right corner, including the dialer, look and settings. During video chat, users can observe the left navigation control panel in perspective, or switch to stuffed-screen mood.

The only big drawback is that Skype's new app doesn't patronise portrait manner along Android tablets. This is especially problematic on the Nexus 7, whose camera is on the broadside bezel when held in landscape, so users testament have to be careful not to stuff the lens.

Skype's Android app also has built audio caliber, fashioning usance of the companionship's SILK wideband sound codec. In a blog post, Skype says SILK tries to meet the varying connection speeds and provide the optimum voice quality possible. The company has posted a short YouTube video to demonstrate the departure.

Merely not all's perfect with the new app. As ZDNet points away, users reviewing the new app hold complained of video glitches, crashes and dropped calls. Just about Nexus 7 users are also saying they prefer the old app, which has portraiture support, over the young app.
