Smoke Alarm Battery Drawer Stuck
Smoke detector battery cover stuck open?
I have two questions: Like the title says, my smoke detector's battery cover is stuck open. How do I get it to close? It feels like there's some kind of locking mechanism preventing it from closing, but I can't see it.
Second question: what kind of batteries do smoke detectors use? I need to buy a new one for it but I can't remember what it takes.

All smoke detectors I've owned take 9V batteries.
There may be a safety mechanism that prevents the door from closing unless a battery is installed.

I agree. See if the door closes, once you install the battery.

Ahh I didn't even think of that. Yeah, could be it. I'll go grab a 9v and try it out soon. I'll post back up here once I try that. Thanks for the suggestion!

So you were right. Put a new battery in and it closed right away.
But now I have a new problem: it's chirping again! Now I remember that was the reason I took the battery out in the first place. Do you know how I stop the chirping now? (Seems like it's every 30-45 seconds) Can't be it needs a new battery, I literally just put a fresh new one in.

Make/model of detector? Pictures?

I don't know the make or model. I'll see if I can add a picture, I've never done that on here before.

Can't say for sure but it looks like an alarm made by the company Kidde, that's just from looking ay a few pics off google tho.
